It’s the keeper of all secrets and the place we all want to peek—it’s the beauty bag. We sat down with our office and marketing manager, Brooke Tetrault, to see what goodies she had within. She not only spilled her bag but also confesses she mixes in plenty of the less expensive stuff and she prefers a natural glow above all. Brooke also treated us to some of her simple and effective beauty tips!
ClarityMD: What beauty products do you refuse to leave the house without?
Brooke: Sunscreen, blush, and mascara.
ClarityMD: We have to know, are you a waterproof or regular mascara sort of girl? What’s your go-to brand?
Brooke: Waterproof! You never know what the day may bring. I like Loreal Voluminous mascara. The brush is the right shape and size, the product goes on smooth, and it’s affordable! Other than that, I’m not loyal to any makeup brand.
ClarityMD: We hear a lot of women say a nice bright, red lipstick helps stave off the Monday Morning Blues. What is your idea of a great beauty pick-me-up?
Brooke: I’m terrible with lipstick; it’s usually just Chapstick for me (which I am always losing). I usually just end up using my three-year-old’s princess gloss with glitter. My “pick-me-up” tip would be to curl your eyelashes. I used to skip this step, but it makes such a difference — the eye just opens up and looks bigger when the lashes are “lifted.” I look more awake! That, and blush helps. Just a touch of pink brightens the whole face.
ClarityMD: You have a luminous complexion. When it comes to foundation, do you use a liquid, a powder, or nothing at all? If you use something, you have to tell us what you use!
Brooke: I prefer a tinted SPF. I like Revision’s Original Intellishade. Just enough color but looks really natural. The skin still shows through but is also protected from the sun. It’s pricey, but it’s like two products in one so I can justify the price.
ClarityMD: Let’s talk eyes. When it comes to liner are you a pencil, liquid, or gel girl?
Brooke: Pencil! I’m so awkward with makeup, so I have to keep it simple.
ClarityMD: Eyeshadow is tricky for any non-Instagram star! When it comes to eyeshadow, what do you tend to gravitate toward?
Brooke: I tend to like more natural colors. I like the rose-gold trend right now though when I’m feeling adventurous!
ClarityMD: Sometimes beauty tips can the most obvious thing. What’s one beauty tip that’s simple enough for anyone to do easily with great results?
Brooke: Cleanse for two whole minutes. I don’t do this every day, but cleansers have a lot of really beneficial ingredients, so massage them around, leave them on the skin, and let them work their magic. Also, a thorough cleanse is the best way to prep skin for all the good stuff you put on afterward.
ClarityMD: Speaking of which, what is your favorite makeup or skincare product ClarityMD carries? Why are you addicted?
Brooke: Hands down, the Complexion Renewal Pads from ZO. We’ve sold them at ClarityMD for years, but I’d never tried them. They came in a kit I received recently, and I’m hooked. I wish I would have tried them sooner! I use them in the morning after I cleanse. It’s a quick, convenient way to exfoliate and get a deeper clean. Plus—instant glow!
ClarityMD: We love that you favor such a natural glow approach to beauty. Who’s your favorite beauty icon and why?
Brooke: Jessica Biel. Her makeup is pretty but natural, simple and polished. She’s a wife and mom and likes to “glam up” occasionally but seems most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, like me!
ClarityMD: Great choice! She always looks so polished, but so real and natural, even when she was younger. Has your beauty bag evolved over the years or is it the same as when you were 20?
Brooke: Not really. I probably still have makeup from high school that I need to throw away!
ClarityMD: I think we all have makeup that we hang on to well past its expiration; you’re just always scared you won’t find that perfect shade or color again! So, the last question, what beauty advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Brooke: Sunscreen. Every day. On any exposed areas (face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands). Make it part of your daily routine. Your older self will thank you!
Sunscreen, clean, simple makeup, and a dab of her daughter’s princess gloss makes Brooke’s beauty bag complete. We walk away from this experience with a renewed commitment to two-minute cleansing and eyelash curling every day. Not to mention, two products we definitely need to get our hands on!
