The cold is setting in, and we are all in a rush to get our holiday errands done before we kick back, relax, and share love and laughter with our family and friends. But don’t forget! Your skin needs a touch of love too! Winter may keep you indoors, but you still need to account for winter skin protection. Here are a few ways to keep your skin feeling healthy and supple through the winter months and ready for when the spring sun starts to shine.
1. Brush off the winter blues
Cold, dry air means dull, lifeless skin. Exfoliation is a great way to remove the dead skin and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to brave the rest of winter. Some of our favorites include:
ZO Skin Health, Offects Exfoliating Polish
This is one our favorite, favorite products. It’s scrubby, it warms on contact, and smells like a spa from an expensive resort. Erase winter blahs and superficial dead skin cells in just minutes for smoother, softer, cleaner skin. ($67)
Jan Marini, CleanZyme/SkinZyme Duo
Papaya enzymes gently dissolve dead skincells, leaving your face amazingly soft. We especially love this pair of products because even the most sensitive skin will benefit from their use. They smell delicious, and we always feel super pampered when we do a mask at home. ($90 for the pair)
2. Moisturize dehydrated winter skin
Jan Marini, Age Intervention Cream
This is a tried and true moisturizer. It’s hydrating and luxurious, and loaded with anti-aging properties. Skin just drinks it up. This has been a fan favorite for years. ($99)
ZO Ommerse Renewal Creme and/or Overnight Recovery Creme
Renewal Creme by day, Recovery Creme by night is the usual recommendation (though consult your aesthetician). The pump makes dispensing fool proof, but what we love most is how it makes our skin feel: Calm, soft and refreshed. ($102)
3. Stay hydrated
Those little paper cups you get after a treatment at ClarityMD? A nice gesture of course, but it’s actually really important! Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to keep skin cells healthy and hydrated. But remember hydration is not just sourced from a glass of water, but various fruits, vegetables, and other beverages. Click here for a more in-depth look at how you can stay hydrated year-round.
4. Wear sunscreen every day
The sun does not stop shining because the temperature drops, and ultraviolet rays reek havoc on your skin. Wearing an SPF of at least 30, every day of the year, is the single best thing you can do for your skin. We like products with a hint of color, so we stay glowy all winter long. Try these:
ZO Skin Health, Oclipse Sunscreen + Primer, $65
Revision Skincare Intellishade, $56
Marini Physical Protectant, $51
5. Schedule a Facial
When in doubt, book an appointment for a facial. Aestheticians can customize treatments for your skin type. Slip into a heated spa bed at ClarityMD and feel the chill melt away.
